From War to Hope: Help Us Rebuild Our Lives

Hello everyone!

As many of you know, since 2022, Ukraine has been enduring the most devastating and large-scale war in Europe since World War II. In the initial surge of patriotism, many volunteered to defend their homeland but were told there were enough soldiers. Now, two years later, Ukraine faces critical losses and rampant corruption. Desperate measures are being taken, with conscription squads forcibly recruiting men off the streets, at home entrances, and even from buses on their way to work [1] [2].

These actions are tantamount to human trafficking, as these squads have no legal right to force people into service against their will. Avoiding mobilization is nearly impossible; eventually, you will be caught and taken away. Contributing to the country through other means, such as economic support or donations, does not exempt you from conscription. Those who are not actively fighting are labeled as "draft dodgers," a stigma heavily promoted by the government. Meanwhile, the privileged few with connections or wealth manage to escape this fate, often paying exorbitant sums to secure their freedom.

In a country where the majority cannot afford such sums, many attempt illegal escapes. They trek through forests, evade drones and armed guards, and endure harsh conditions. Some are caught and forced into military service, but many succeed. Hundreds attempt this daily, including former soldiers and volunteers who feel betrayed by a country that now leaves them no choice but to fight or flee. Corruption is rampant, with funds being misappropriated even for surveys on corruption. Yet, citizens are continually asked to donate for essential supplies for soldiers because the state fails to provide.

The war has devastated businesses, and daily life is a struggle. Electricity is scarce, and people face long power outages. This summer, I had power for only about eight hours a day. In winter, the situation will worsen. This is not the life I envisioned. War has surrounded me since I was 12, and I couldn't gather enough resources to leave before the full-scale invasion began. I have a wife and three cats, which makes our escape even more challenging.

Now, I have finally saved enough to ensure we won't end up on the streets once we escape. However, our journey is fraught with challenges: a 100-kilometer trek through forests, a couple of months in quarantine due to anti-rabies tests for our cats, and then relocating to a new country. Though my savings should be enough, the uncertainty of our situation means the money might run out before we are settled.

This is why I am reaching out to you for help. Your donations will support my family in achieving a life free from constant fear, explosions, and stress.

Once we are safe, I have big plans to innovate in web development, moving beyond outdated forum engines like XenForo and vBulletin. But first, we need to escape and rebuild our lives.

Thank you for your compassion and support. Your generosity can help us find peace and a fresh start.

You may not want to donate simply because I found myself in this situation. In the end, I have my problems, you have yours. Therefore, I am attaching a list of my open source projects for which you could thank me with some amount 💝:
